Disability Bitch is banned from Facebook

The BBC’s Ouch site has all the news and comment about disability you could ever wish for. The Disability Bitch or DB to her readers is a blogger who contributes to the site every Thursday. She is currently banned from Facebook for having an offensive name which I thought was the sort of headline grabber that would get my blog a few hits.

But really I wanted to mention her just now as she has highlighted the fact that America is celebrating 20 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act in her blog post Disability Bitch hates the DDA. I fluctuate between thinking that any step in the right direction is still a step in the right direction and what is the point of any legislation if it’s never used. Anyway this all really just leading up to my next post about Obama signing the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act.

To bring things back to technology Disability Bitch also blogs in her latest post, The independent lover, about the Conservative MP who blogged that excessive tweeters who are disabled and on benefits should be reported to the Department of Work and Pensions. I guess there is a bit of legislation that could be used to prosecute these work shy tweeters whereas anything that could be used to stop a person being unlawfully harassed for a reason related to their disability, perhaps if they were subjected to unwanted conduct that has the purpose or effect of violating their dignity or of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment couldn’t possibly be even considered.

You see you’ve got to be careful with this social networking and blogging malarky. You don’t know who’s watching you.
